We are proud to introduce an entirely new communication system with unprecedented capabilities and exceptional ease of use. It is designed to support our Omnimeter line of kWh meters, in order to maximize their capabilities and data readability. All you have to do is plug it in! -- the Push3 gateway handles all of the meter communication and inserts the reads into our cloud database. Your data is then freely available from a known, fixed location in the cloud, by way of your unique access key. The data can be accessed via our Open API for free. Yes, the data is provided for free. There are no recurring fees for the Push3 data!

Version 3 of the EKM Push system includes some new features. It is natively WiFi enabled (the Push3 has a TI WiLink 8 2.4GHz wireless module, which supports MIMO 802.11 b/g WiFi), so it can connect to the internet via WiFi or ethernet. If you intend to connect the Push3 to your WiFi network, please make sure that your WiFi router supports the 802.11 b/g standard.

The Push3 is able to send settings commands to the Omnimeters, so changing things like CT ratios, resetting Max Demand, or programming TOU tariffs is easily done online. The v.4 and v.5 Omnimeter relays can also be controlled with Push3, so turning things on/off is possible.

Push3 also has default onboard data storage via a ≥16GB Micro SD card. This allows the gateway to log data as a stand alone device, or as simply a back up when the internet goes down for any reason. Once the internet connection is reestablished, data is uploaded to the cloud. The included SD card can be replaced with Micro SD cards or USB drives with more available storage (of any size), if needed. The Micro SD card and/or USB drive should be formatted to FAT32 before being used with the Push3.

There is nothing like this available on the market; whether you are metering a single cottage or an international electric car charging network, with tens of thousands of metered points, we believe the Push3 will be the backbone of the next generation of metering. It represents an entirely new paradigm for meter data management, and control.

Our intent is to provide our customers with FREE, seamless, and unrestricted access to their data in real time. What we are offering is the most robust and capable hardware set available, with easy and and reliable access to your data. Again, this service is free, with no monthly or annual fees.

Up to 128x Omnimeters can be daisy-chained together and connected to each Push3 gateway.  However, an unlimited number of Omnimeters can communicate with a single Push3 gateway by using our 485Bee radio modules, which create a mesh network for wireless communication between the Omnimeters and the Push3 gateway.

For each meter that is read by the EKM Push3 gateway, the Push system provides the latest 1000 reads of real-time data. This is typically the last 1000 minutes of data (once/minute read rate). Beyond that the Push database stores a summarized version of that real-time data. It stores 15 minute summaries for 2 years. It stores 1 hour summaries for 4 years. After 4 years, only daily summaries are available and they are only available in UTC time, so the data is no longer timezone adjustable. Daily summaries can also make weekly and monthly summaries but again, those summaries are only available in UTC time after 4 years of storage.

DIN Rail mountable. It is possible to fit this gateway and a v.3 or v.4 Omnimeter inside of this Watertight Enclosure, in the horizontal orientation.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • How far can the EKM Push3 be away from the Omnimeter when using wireless.

First the hardwired connection between the Push3 gateway and the Omnimeters can be up to 126 Omnimeters on up to 4000 feet of twisted pair shielded wire.

But if you want to wirelessly connect your Omnimeters to the EKM Push gateway using our 485Bee radios, we say that the distance is about 600 feet.  This is a general rule of thumb, if you have the radios located behind a thick concrete wall, this distance will be much less.  We have seen distances of 1.5 miles using the antennas we provide, and you can achieve over 30 miles if you use high gain antennas instead.

If you need to get more distance, you can either use higher gain antennas, or you can used additional 485Bee radios, which both boost the signal and reinforce the wireless mesh network.   The hardwired connection from the Push gateway to the 485Bee can also be up to 4000 feet.  It is best to locate your Push gateway near your internet connection, then if you want to gain maximum range with your 485Bee radios to locate the 485Bee radios up as high as possible above the ground with clear line of sight connection between the 485Bees.  You can monitor the Push3 data for reliabilty of the data, then make small adjustments to the 485Bee antenna angle or position to get the best results through experimentation.

Here are some things that will reduce the signal and range of the 485Bees:  housing the 485Bee in a metal enclosure, mounting the 485Bee close to the ground or underground, pointing the 485Bee antenna in the wrong direction, a lot of trees or buildings between 485Bees, not taking advantage of the meshing capability of the 485Bees, etc

  • What is the maximum distance between nodes when connecting multiple Omnimeters?

The maximum total distance of wire that can be used per one EKM Push3 is 4,000 feet of twisted pair wire, with as many meters daisychained as needed. You can also use our EKM-485Bee radio modules to wirelessly bridge together meters in the daisychain.

  • Can one EKM Push3 Data System communicate with multiple Omnimeters? If so how? Do you daisy chain the RS 485 terminals?

Yes, each EKM Push3 can communicate with up to 128 Omnimeters on the same hardwired twisted pair 2-wires, or an unlimited number of Omnimeters if wireless 485Bees are used to extend the system.

  • 1) I intend to use for Water Metering. I have locations that may or not have access to the internet. I understand data(EKM Push 3) can be stored on SD card or USB and can be retrieved in this way. My question is, does your software allow me to import the data that is on the SD or USB? Example, After a Month of logging, I visit a site that does not have access to internet, I pull out the SD or USB and replace with new one. I then go to office and import the data. ( I did glance at the software (encompass and EKM Dash) and do not see an import option.

Yes, the data will be logged to an SD card on the Push3 if the Push3 does not have internet.  The data will be uploaded to the cloud if the Push3 regains connection to the internet, so you should not have data gaps from when the internet was down.

Or you can remove the SD card and read the SD card with your computer.  The data will be in json format.  But as of June 2023, this data on the SD card is not accessible by the EKM Dash software.  So you would have to interpret the json data with either your own software or a json to csv converter.

So if you can, it would be best (or easiest rather) to take the Push3 with the SD card to the office and have it upload the data to the cloud.  This upload process can take a while if you have a month of data stored on the SD card.

  • I need to monitor 2 water lines from my computer. What do I need and total cost?

At the very minimum you would need 2 water meters, an Omnimeter Pulse v.4, and either an EKM Push3 gateway (if you want to gather this data 24/7 over the internet) or a USB converter if you only want to gather the data locally when you are running your computer and the EKM Dash software.  We would recommend the EKM Push method as it is more reliable and you end up with a more complete dataset.
