Our remote readable 3/4" Stainless Steel Pulse Output Water Meters are a great solution for remotely, or locally, monitoring water consumption.

This is a well made, industrial grade, stainless steel (201 grade) water meter. You can use it as a traditional water meter where you read the water consumption off of the face of the meter. It also has the added functionality of being able to connect the pulse output wires to a pulse counting device. This meter produces a pulse for every 1/10 cubic foot (approx. 0.75 gallon, or 2.83 liters) that flows though the meter, these pulses can be then picked up and counted by our pulse counting devices. The pulse output wires can be extended up to 10,000 ft.

This meter has received California Type Approval from the California Department of Weights and Measures, which certifies that the meter's accuracy is revenue grade. This allows the meter's readings to be used for billing purposes.

Remote Water Reading:

This meter is designed to generate pulses at a high rate to provide high granularity data when set up to read with a computer. This high granularity can provide better insights into usage patterns. In particular, it can tell you if you have a leak in your water system, because it only takes ~6.0 pints of water leakage to generate a pulse. In other words, if you see a pattern of pulses when you shouldn't (when you aren't intentionally using water) then you probably have a leak somewhere. The number of pulses over a given period of time will tell you how severe the leak is. Identifying and fixing water leaks can save a ton of money in water costs and overage fees, not to mention mitigating the damage that any leak can cause.

This pulse output water meter can be connected to our EKM-Omnimeter Pulse v.4, which is our new pulse input meter. This is our most advanced electric meter to date. This meter can count the pulse outputs from up to 3 pulse output devices. It can also control up to 2 external relays, which allows you to turn things on and off remotely.

Similarly, our new EKM-ioStack (beta) has the ability to count the pulse outputs from up to 4 pulse output devices. It has the added benefit of being powered by 12V DC instead of 120V AC like the Omnimeters, which makes it easier and safer to install.

This water meter, when connected to a v.4 Omnimeter or ioStack, can send pulse data to the cloud with our EKM Push3 data system. The Push3 sends all of your meter data to our cloud database and inserts it into your personal account, where you can access it for free. In other words, with this system you can easily monitor water use, at an unlimited number of sites around the world, for free.


Encompass.io is our free online meter management platform for monitoring data, managing meters, generating bills, and more. It is designed specifically for people who are remotely reading their meters via the Push3 system. This platform can be used to visualize data on customizable dashboards, visualize cost, monitor trends, group meters, and a lot more. I purchased one of these meters 8 years ago and submitted a review (the first review on this web page). In that review I stated that my PLC that uses 24volts for most of its inputs burned out the reed switch in the meter when attached to one of these inputs.

That repaired meter has been working perfectly for 8 years (~a million gallons a year) on one of the PLC’s 5 volt inputs. About a month ago I decided to add a second meter to my water management system. I wished to use this meter on a second PLC and prefered to not add a 5 volt power supply. Replying to an inquiry from me, Seth informed me 24 volts should now be fine as long as I kept the current below 20 mA. I checked the current draw on my 24 volt inputs and found it to be less than 10 mA. I purchased the second meter and installed it using one of the 24 volt inputs and have now been using it for over a month (~1000 gallons per day) with no problems.

I have been very satisfied with these meters and am now planning to add a third one.

Fantastic product

I have purchased and installed hundreds of these meters to active a custom built hydrogen peroxide injection system for well water treatment. Rarely has there ever been an issue and customer support is always an email away and they ship so fast it’s uncanny.

Industrial water treatment

I have installed 7 of these meters, I use them to record the amount of make up water a system takes on then the controller adds the correct amount of "chemicals" to the system.

Difficulty working with stainless steel.

The stainless steel threaded pipe on the ends of the meter are so short that there is no room for a normal pipe wrench. Because stainless steel is so hard, even a narrow pipe would not grip the pipe. I found that a vise grip did the trick and because of the hardness, you need a lot of force or it will leak.

Pulse output water meter for off-site monitoring

I'm using EKM's meter to monitor water flow data to a cloud server, using a separate pulse transmitter made by different vendor.
I've installed a few of EKM's water meters so far. Pulse output is its best feature, its internal reed switch generates pulses that can be used with other vendors, and there's just no other 2-wire pulse-output flow meter(or flow sensor) which you can buy at this price. OTOH you can buy a Hunter Flow-Sync 2-wire flow sensor at twice the price, and it only appears to work with Hunter irrigation controllers. Plus it won't work with low-flow systems, you need 2 GPM minimum for its pulse output to generate a signal.

Thresholds can be set based on variances from normal water use. Standard text alerts will go off once thresholds reach the preset values. Nice to know you won't lose thousands of gallons of water from a broken line when you're not on site. That feature more or less pays for the hardware itself.
